Shebra Evans
President, Montgomery County School Board
Mrs. Shebra L. Evans is a member of the Montgomery County Board of Education representing District 4 in Maryland. She was first elected to the Montgomery County Board of Education in November 2016. Mrs. Evans is currently serving her second term as President of the Board of Education. She is a member of the Board’s Strategic Planning Committee. Her current term ends in 2020. Mrs. Evans is running for re-election to the Montgomery County Board of Education to represent District 4 in Maryland. She is on the ballot in the general election on November 3, 2020.
Mrs. Evans is a member of the Board of Directors for the Maryland Association of Boards of Education (MABE), Chair of the MABE Equity Ad Hoc Committee and serves on the Policies and Procedures Committee. Mrs. Evans has been a passionate advocate and activist for public education. In addition, she has served in numerous volunteer leadership roles with the Montgomery County Council of PTAs (MCCPTA), as a co-leader of the African American Student Achievement Action Group, she served as a community partner on the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Superintendent’s Operating Budget Group and the Math Exam Work Group. Mrs. Evans received the Distinguished Advocate for Healthful Living Award in 2019 from the Society of Health and Physical Educators. Through her work, she has given voice to community needs, concerns, and positions. Her belief that an empowered and informed community is the most effective way to build a high-quality school system has been the foundation of her work. She strives to foster a productive partnership with the School System and the community it serves.
In addition to her board service, Mrs. Evans is a Board member for Big Learning, Inc. and is actively involved with the YMCA – Youth & Family Services Advisory Board, a graduate of Leadership Montgomery Core Class 2018, as well as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated – Theta Omega Omega Chapter. Mrs. Evans has worked as a Financial Analyst in the Cable and Energy industry. She received a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Finance from Tennessee State University. Mrs. Evans and her husband Lawrence have resided in Montgomery County for over 19 years and have two daughters who attend Montgomery County Public Schools.
