Business Ownership & Entrepreneurship

Black‑owned businesses create jobs, build community wealth, and anchor neighborhood vitality. At this moment in Montgomery County’s history, its growth is essential. As the county faces real fiscal pressures, a stronger future depends on private‑sector economic development — new enterprises, new employment, and new economic activity flowing into our community. Black entrepreneurs are uniquely positioned to help drive that resurgence, provided we build the conditions that allow them to start, grow, and scale with confidence.

Entrepreneurship is more than business ownership — it is the courage to pursue new opportunities. Policies that nurture this spirit empower Black residents and other communities of color to build wealth and achieve mobility, whether they own the company or help lead it.

CERG PAC 2.0 is committed to advancing a genuine entrepreneurial ecosystem — one that prioritizes private‑sector growth, where the greatest market opportunity exists. We value access to government contracts as one component of that ecosystem, while remaining focused on a broader vision: a Montgomery County where Black‑owned businesses build recognizable brands, employ community members, and compete successfully in the open market.

Achieving that vision requires investment in peer networks and mentorship from established Black entrepreneurs; expanded access to private capital through community development financial institutions and angel investment networks; and incubators and accelerators that turn promising ideas into thriving enterprises. CERG PAC 2.0 evaluates and holds candidates accountable for their commitment to building this full infrastructure — because the growth of Black‑owned businesses strengthens both our community and the economic future of Montgomery County as a whole.
